Why not?
During the last few decades, it seems that people are finally embracing a much more plant-filled diet. Super-duper! However, getting your veggies isn't really accomplished just by consuming French fries or sprinkling chives on a slathered baked potato. In this blog, I'd like to help present relevant, legitimate information to the public about how a vegetable-filled diet can change lives for the better*. I'm just a layperson (for now!), but have an appreciation for sound research methods, and, I hope, a functioning quack detector. Ultimately, the information I plan to post is provided for readers' consideration and introspection. I'm hoping your analysis and contemplation will move those seeking health benefits to consider a vegetarian-based diet.
Some regular items I hope to post:
-Vegan recipes and food substitutes
-Info on locating hard-to-find ingredients, tools, supplements, etc.
-Legitimate studies on vegetarian/vegan diets
-Lists of resources (websites, books, groups) that offer more in-depth, professional information (I am well-meaning, but I am not a health professional! Plus, why should I try to re-invent the wheel on certain topics?)
-My opinions on recipes I attempt, restaurants, products, and anything else relevant
-Tips on veggie-based living, including:
> dining out and preparing recipes that will please non-vegetarians;
> making choices that help promote a more cruelty-free society;
> and intereacing with well-meaning people who are curious or may think a plant-based diet doesn't provide enough health benefits.
I sincerely hope that you enjoy this blog, and may benefit from it.
*Note: As much as I think a plant-based diet is far superior to a meat-based diet, this blog isn't designed to bash meat eaters. I may call into question the intentions of those organizations that do promote a meat-centric society, and those who promote using ariticial means in the attempt to improve livestock for consumption. However, though I will likely provide links and resources for those interested in actively challenging the meat-based status quo (like PETA does), I'm not one for mud-slinging or fights.
***And, in order to cover all of us here, if in doubt in regards to your health status, please don't hesitate to get thee to a physician. In no way do I attempt anything other than the services of a good Samaritan.***
